Mental Health & Hygiene : Crucial in 21st Century

I am sure in today's times we are very conscious about what we eat, how much we eat, in what frequency we eat? Hitting gyms, yoga, brisk walks are essential and people do realize the importance of having a perfectly shaped body! But how many of us really think of our mental well being? As per the statistics, there are nearly 380 deaths each day in India due to suicide. The numbers are definitely alarming but we all need to have that mental check and awareness each day!

Our generation is more majorly hit because for us everything becomes a problem right from our days at school

1. Achieving Good grades - being an all-rounder, extrovert vs introvert

2. Pursuing Further Studies (from reputed school)

3. Getting handsomely paying jobs - topnotch companies

4. Being in relationships - girlfriend/boyfriend, live-in

5. Marriage  -  love vs arranged

6. Post marriage scenarios  -  Husband, inlaws, extended family, joint family vs nuclear family, career vs homemaker

7. Having babies - cesarean vs normal, postpartum depression, hormonal imbalance

8. Teenager Kids - understanding the newer generation(when we ourselves are so CONFUSED!!??)

This is a vicious loop and we all fall prey to either of the problems while growing up. Meanwhile, the financial and health conditions of every being in the family being at their best is important for our own mental sanity. If u are a balanced person then you may not have fallen into the trap! but honestly, how many of us are so sorted and centered in life?

Our generation also lacks the concept of a strong community! Our parents and generation before theirs had always understood the power of being united. Problems were not even realized coz people had the patience and power to face a situation as they were together. In today's times, people feel lonely and don't even have anyone trustworthy enough to discuss their woes. Women today are trying to travel on two boats (personal and professional life) balancing both of them and remaining happy is definitely an art.

Considering the list of problems can be never-ending but what is more important to understand that how can we train our minds to overcome the above stated or any problem. This is where understanding oneself is important! For helping us become a better version of ourselves there are so many programs that have started. For example :

1. Happiness Program ( Art of Living ) - It is four days, 2 hourly workshop that helps us and makes us more aware of our emotions and vulnerabilities, the Sudershankriya (pranayama technique) helps us manage our emotions (anger, jealousy, hatred, love, creativity ) better as these are cyclical breathing practice to be done on a daily basis. This overall helps us have more energy( as the cells are oxygenated) and help us build a  better immune system. There are programs at every age group that is carried out frequently all over the world. It is we who need to understand and take that first step.

2. Isha Kriya (Isha Foundation) - Some yogic sciences put to use for health, dynamism, peace, and wellbeing.

3. Raja Yoga Meditation (Brahma Kumaris) - Some techniques taught to empower us with awareness to choose between good and positive thoughts over those which are negative and wasteful. Helping create better and healthier relations.

There are so many such non-profit organizations always willing to help and provide guidance too! So do not miss out and feel free to reach out. One other thing is in life always have one person to whom you can reach out at any hour of the day! Try finding that one mate whom you can discuss your heart out. Because today the scientific study also says it's important to vent out your woes else they can lead to dangerous diseases. Most of them are psychosomatic (involving the Mind and Body) by nature. There are many nice books ("You Can Heal Your Life'' - Louise Hay) that I have read for a better understanding of how the mind and body are connected. The thoughts in the mind and the disease it can cause! Surprising it may sound but it is true. So at this juncture, at whatever age group we may be in,  what we need to understand is the state of mind we live in! Do ponder about the same and work towards mental and physical fitness for a better tomorrow 😊

  2. Hitherto unknown or not so popular health issue is Mental Health and the reason why we all need to concentrate on it is mainly due to the changing priorities. The day the human has evolved from "We and US" to "Me and My Family", mental issues started coming up. But now the humans have started moving from "ME and My Family" to "ME and I" syndrome due to which the Mental Health issues have reached the danger zone mark and turned into the pandemic.

So,in today's scenario every one is running for something or the other without fully knowing or realizing what they truly want from themselves or from life. So,I suggest before we begin your day give 5 to 10 mnts(or may be more if you are willing) to think what your true self wants or desires and then make positive affirmations.Really works fr me!!!:)

We humans are social animals and hence need support system. We need to understand that stay grounded with family and loyal friends immaterial of where we go in life.

  14. As we're moving on towards the new centuries, our humanity, Sociality and mentality are getting down. All these things lead to affect mental health. Sometimes when I feel emotionally distracted then I used to listen to SadhGuruji. We need to take some steps to improve our generation otherwise we will create hell for our children.
